ARTC-1359 | Visual Design for New Media
Course Description: Visual design elements as they relate to new media. Emphasizes aesthetics and visual problem solving such as typographic issues, color management, hierarchy of information, image optimization, and effective layout.
Instructor Driven Focus: This class is structured like an internship. Students are positioned as designers working in an in house design studio for a book publishing company that specializes in creating coffee table art books. These designs are a collection of student branding concepts for a publishing division that they named themselves. The designs were initially created in black and white to highlight the importance of silhouette in the overall success of their work. The assignment also emphasized treating letterforms as graphic elements as design objects, rather than focusing solely on informational content. Software utilized is Adobe Illustrator.
