ARTC-1359 | Visual Design for New Media
Course Description: Visual design elements as they relate to new media. Emphasizes aesthetics and visual problem solving such as typographic issues, color management, hierarchy of information, image optimization, and effective layout.
Instructor Driven Focus: In this class, students explore interactivity by designing an architectural visualization (Arch Viz) game level set in an art gallery. Each student is assigned a contemporary artist and creates a gallery that showcases their work, experimenting with spatial layout, lighting, and atmosphere to make the experience engaging and immersive. Using Unreal Engine, students gain hands-on experience with real-time rendering, interactive elements, and environmental storytelling. The project encourages combining artistic vision with technical skill, allowing students to develop creative problem-solving, experiment with design choices, and bring a virtual gallery to life in a way that feels dynamic, expressive, and inviting for visitors.
